As a result of the studies conducted by the Gümüşhane University Geographical Products Working Group, applications for geographical indications were completed for four new products. The historical background, production methods, geographical boundaries, and distinctive features of the products were examined in detail during meetings, the necessary preparations were completed, and the product applications were submitted by the Gümüşhane Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The working team and the implementation of the studies included: Prof. Dr. Sevim Beyza Öztürk Sarıkaya, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism at Gümüşhane University, as chair; Assoc. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Avcı, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azer Özat Düzgün, Lecturer Arda Akdoğan, Dr. Lecturer Cuma Zehiroğlu, Dr. Lecturer Ümit Altıntaş, Lecturer Rıfat Pir, Research Assistant Aleyna Gün, and Cahit Bal, Secretary General of the Gümüşhane Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The products applied for included Kuşburnu Soup, Toğala Kuymağı, Kürtün Zili, and Şiran Ala Kilim.
Prof. Dr. Sevim Beyza ÖZTÜRK SARIKAYA, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism at Gümüşhane University, stated that the registration of geographically indicated products is very important in terms of protecting Gümüşhane's local values and increasing its economic potential. She announced that work is continuing with the University's Geographical Indications working group to include other products unique to Gümüşhane under the geographical indication scope.
