Special Conditions Regarding Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department
1- Conditions regarding the optional foreign language preparatory class
Currently, there is no foreign language preparatory class practice in our department before the transition to formal education.
During the 4-year education period in our department; Compulsory English I and II courses are given in both semesters of the 1st year, and compulsory Professional English courses are given in all semesters of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades. English and Professional English classes are 4 hours per week. In addition, elective foreign language courses can be taken in Arabic and Russian starting from the 5th semester in our department. However, newly registered students who want to be exempt from English I and English II courses have the right to take the language exemption exam.
2- Conditions regarding internship and training model
In our department, mainly applied courses, but also theoretical courses are also included. Applied courses; Simultaneously, 40 students can receive hot or cold cuisine training, and 40 students can receive patisserie and baked goods training in the practice kitchen for a total of 80 people. Theoretical courses are held in classrooms.
Along with the theoretical and applied courses, our students must complete a 60-day compulsory internship as of the end of the second year, excluding the academic year, in order to be eligible for graduation. Our students can complete their compulsory 60-day internship in two 30-day terms if they make an excuse.
The companies, institutions or organizations where our students can do internship are as follows:
• Food and beverage departments of three-four-five-star hotels and holiday villages,
• First class restaurants,
• Businesses offering airline catering services,
• Food & beverage sections of national/international passenger ships (cruise),
• Businesses that provide catering services (Catering businesses),
• University social facilities,
• Food and beverage departments of other tourism businesses approved by the Internship Commission.

3- Conditions regarding clothing and equipment materials required by the profession
In the practice kitchen, where the applied courses will be held in our department, technical equipment such as stove, kitchen sink, oven, freezer section, kitchen counter, aerator, and tools and equipment are available and are suitable for carrying out educational activities. In addition, it should be known that these equipment comply with industrial kitchen standards. Our students need cook clothes for practical lessons.
In the theoretical courses to be conducted in our department, classrooms, computers, projectors, etc. equipment is provided by our university.
5- The content of the program, the conditions of the campus/campus where the faculty, college and vocational school are located
Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department is mainly an applied department, and the aim of the department is; To enable graduate students to be employed in the kitchen department of the accommodation establishments or in the independent food and beverage establishments as a head chef or cook or in a managerial position. In addition, another aim of the department is to provide students who aim to take part in the sector as entrepreneurs, to gain managerial knowledge and skills to establish their own food and beverage businesses as professional who know the sector and the cuisine well. In addition to these, our graduates have the opportunity to be employed in different fields related to culinary arts.
Our department is located in Gümüşhane University Faculty of Tourism. Educational activities are carried out in the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of our University. Our faculty is located on the Gümüşhanevi Campus in the city center of Gümüşhane. On our campus; library, indoor and outdoor sports fields, swimming pool, fitness center, walking parks, cafes, social facilities, etc., where our students can meet their social needs as well as their educational needs. There are also opportunities.
6- Conditions regarding the opportunities to work as a part-time student
Our students, who apply to the university rectorate or faculty dean with a request for part-time work, can be employed in our university's social facility, administrative units or other areas deemed appropriate. In addition, our students can obtain part-time employment opportunities in various businesses that need workforce in the city center with their individual applications.
