Dear stakeholders and dear students,
In recent years, it has been observed that a conscious change in understanding has been made to minimize the negative effects of tourism on the social and economic environment. This understanding called sustainable tourism, it is aimed to use economic, social and environmental resources sustainably. The understanding of sustainable tourism has basic principles such as not destroying tourism resources, protecting the values of the local people, protecting the historical and cultural heritage of tourism regions, and ensuring the economic and social development of undeveloped or underdeveloped regions. In line with this understanding, it is very important to develop alternative tourism types that are compatible with the economic and social realities of the regions, unlike the traditional mass tourism understanding.
In the light of the principles listed, the School of Tourism Management and Hotel Management, which was established within the body of Gümüşhane University in 2010, was transformed into the Faculty of Tourism in May 2013 with the decision of the Council of Ministers. Solving the problem of qualified workforce in the tourism sector of our school, realizing tourism development projects that include local elements and the university within the scope of sustainable tourism, raising awareness of the public about tourism, supporting alternative tourism types such as cultural tourism, faith tourism, nature tourism, rural tourism and education. Programs have basic objectives such as to be handled according to this understanding. In this context, it is obvious that there is a need for well-educated employees and managers who will take charge in the tourism sector with an understanding that respects its history and values to ensure long-term tourism development.
Gumushane University Faculty of Tourism, which started its educational activities to meet this need, has Tourism Guidance, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts departments. Our work is carried out diligently with our young, dynamic, researcher and academic and administrative staff who act with team spirit.
Our faculty cares about the historical, cultural and social dimension of tourism as well as its commercial dimension; It has a management philosophy and education policy that accepts tourism as a means of “meeting” and “tolerating” each other.
Hope to meet and meet you...
